7 reasons your second car should be an eBike

Most second cars spend their days parked, and their short trips stuck in traffic. Here's why an eBike can take over those trips, what it actually saves, and why it's more fun.

01

You pay once, not every month

Keeping an average car on Irish roads costs about €608 a month once you add loan repayments, fuel, insurance, tax, NCT and parking. A LOCO eBike starts at €1,099, and costs about €4 a month to charge.

Source: OUTsurance Ireland, 2025, running costs excluding depreciation. Loan: average car loan €13,233 (BPFI, Q1 2026) repaid over 5 years at 7.7% APR, about €266 a month.

Most car trips are short

More than 1 in 3 car journeys driven in Ireland are under 4 km. That's the school gate, the shop and the gym: the trips an eBike does faster than finding a space.

03

No tax, NCT or insurance

A pedal-assist eBike is treated like a bicycle in Ireland. No motor tax, no licence, no NCT and no compulsory insurance. One less renewal reminder.

Park at the door

No circling, no meters, no clamping. The average Irish driver spends €484 a year on parking. On an eBike you lock up outside and walk straight in.

05

The journey gets fun again

No queue, no radio traffic report, no hunt for a space. Pedal assist turns hills into a tailwind, so the trip stops being dead time and becomes the bit of the day you look forward to.
