7 reasons hills stop mattering on an eScooter

The hill itself isn't really the problem. It's arriving tired, needing sports gear, and hunting for a shower. Here's how an eScooter takes all three away, and what to look for so it actually does.

01

Arrive fresh, not wrecked

A hill on the way in usually means turning up tired before the day has started. On an eScooter there's no pedalling at all: the motor does all of the climbing while you stand and steer, so you get to the top with energy left for the day.

Ride in your work clothes

No Lycra, no padded shorts, no change of clothes rolled up in the bag. You're not working on the climb, so ride in whatever you're wearing for the day.

03

Skip the shower

Because the motor does the work on the hill, you're not arriving in a sweat. No need for an office shower, or to plan your day around one.

Watts, and two motors, do the climbing

Motor power, in watts, is the best single number for hills. Our hill picks start at 1000 W and go up to 2000 W on the G4. Dual motors drive both wheels, so the scooter pulls and pushes up the slope at once.

Brand specs: KuKirin G2 Max 1000 W, G4 2000 W, G2 Master dual motor 1000 W × 2, G3 Pro dual motor 2400 W peak total.

05

The climb angle tells you how steep

KuKirin states the steepest slope each model can climb, in degrees: the G2 up to 20°, G2 Max 22°, G2 Master 28°, G4 30° and G3 Pro 32°. Pick one with headroom, and keep you and your bag inside the 120 kg max load.

Brand-stated maximum climbing angles. Real-world climbing drops with rider weight, load, battery level and cold.

Grip on the way up, range for the way home

10" and 11" off-road and tubeless tyres hold on wet roads, gravel and broken surfaces, and front and rear suspension keeps them on the ground over bumps. Climbing uses more battery, so we only quote realistic range: about 24 to 27 miles on our hill picks.

Realistic range is 55% of the brand's claimed range.
